The story behind this image, is that is exactly 68 years old. My grandma had actually taken the picture of her two friends. As soon as I saw it - I knew I wanted to post it up. It's a very meaningful picture. My family and I actually thought we'd lost it.

My grandma suggested I put it up on that site I always talk about. That site being this one. I did it with her full permission. (: Plus, it's such a wonderful picture - I thought I'd share it with everyone on here. (:

I heard that the scrap drive in WW2 was mostly propaganda for the home front. It was cheaper to mine metal from the Earth, than to melt things down and recycle them. I heard from a guy that was involved in the scrap drive back in WW2 in the San Francisco California area. He told me that they dumped stuff in land fill dumps, and San Francisco Bay. The San Francisco Mint even dumped a bunch of those 1943 Steel/Zinc pennies in the bay. Dumped off of barges into the water. I heard that there were some American Civil War era cannons on display out front of the San Joaquin Cort House in Stockton California. The cannons were donated to the scrap drive in WW2, and really ended up buried out at the city dump.
